Procrastination is where you have something that you feel like you should be doing, but you just find it hard to get started.
It’s actually really simple to overcome procrastination.
Step 1: Identify a really small action step that you can take toward accomplishing the study task.
Something that will take less than 10 minutes to complete. It could be, for example, reading the first five pages of a book, or it could be writing the first paragraph of an assignment.
Then the next step? Very simple.
Step 2: Just do it!
Once you have done 10 minutes of work, you will more than likely feel compelled to continue and finish it.
If you are serious about overcoming procrastination then there are a few other things you can do as well.
Additional Tips to Overcome Procrastination
You can set a regular time to do your studying.
For example, make studying be the very first thing you do when you first come home. Study before doing anything else: before eating, watching TV or any other activity,
As another example, you could set an alarm clock for 6pm each day to begin your study time.
You can write down your commitment to overcome procrastination as a promise that you will do it.
Then give it to a person whom you respect. Once you make a promise to this person you are much more likely to follow through.
Look at all the different things you want to do in your life.
Perhaps the thing you are procrastinating about is not really all that important. If it’s not that important, you can simply decide that you won’t do it at all.
This means you are no longer procrastinating about it; instead, you have decided not to do it.
Obviously if you do that with your studies, you are not going to get good results in your exams. You do, however, have to make decisions about your priorities in life, and sometimes you might decide that studying is not that important to you.
Consider this decision carefully, and don’t make it as a knee-jerk reaction. Make sure you are making the right decision. Ultimately you are the only one who can decide what you are going to do with your life, and you need to decide whether you are going to do it, or not.
